Curriculum

Here at Walton Children Centre we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Document to plan activities and assess our children from Birth to 5 years old.

The EYFS is an observation based curriculum where each child has a personalised learning plan based on their own interests, knowledge and understanding.

We really value parents and carers insight into their child’s interests at home.

As part of our provision and in keeping with the EYFS guidance every child in our nursery is allocated a Key Person.

The Key person is committed to ensuring each child feels special and cared for, is listened to and has their needs met in a sensitive and caring way. The Key person forms a relationship with both child and family, to ensure smooth transition from home to nursery, and is a point of contact for parents and carers.

As part of the provision the Key person is responsible for a small group of children. They will make individual plans based on observations, knowledge and prior information about the child. They will also report to parents and carers at the beginning or end of each day.

The EYFS is based around 4 principles

- A unique child

- Positive relationships

- Enabling Environments

- Learning and Development

Learning and Development is then split into 6 areas of learning

- Personal, Social & Emotional Development

- Communication, Language and Literacy

- Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy

- Knowledge and understanding of the world

- Physical Development

- Creative Development

Each area is planned by both staff (adult Led) and the children themselves to ensure development through the foundation stage of education.

We plan for both adult led and child initiated activities which provide interest, encouragement and progress for every child.

Each child’s progress is recorded as a Developmental Journey from Birth, throughout their time at Nursery, and on to the end of their First year at Primary School.

These files are available to you at all times and we aim to formally report each child’s progress twice a year.

Underpinning all of the above is the Every Child Matters Framework.

This is part of the governments 10 year strategy for children. The aim is for every child whatever their background or circumstances to have the support they need to:

- Be Healthy

- Stay Safe

- Enjoy and Achieve

- Make a positive Contribution

- Achieve Economic well being

Supervised Fluoride Tooth Brushing Programme

We have recently secured funding at our nursery in order to take part in the 'Supervised Fluoride Tooth Brushing Programme'.

This is a city wide initiative where children will have the opportunity to brush their teeth daily in nursery, whilst supervised by the day care staff.  Children opting to take part in the programme will be provided with three 'take home' dental packs, over a twelve month period including a toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.

For more information on brushing your child's teeth and the importance of using a family fluoride toothpaste, please click on the link below.
